Data inspires action - rainfall

Heavy rains in Kingston yesterday—and earlier this week in Montego Bay—remind us of the importance of timely, transparent weather data. The Meteorological Service of Jamaica, with its seven Kingston stations, plays a vital role in monitoring and guiding our national response.

Why not publish it all? In an age of open data, Jamaica can lead by example. Innovators, planners, and communities deserve access to the full picture.

Online weather sources have reported rainfall measurements between Friday and Saturday:

  • Constant Spring: 6.5 mm Davis station storm data (Sept 20): 3.04 inches

  • Barbican: 6.3 mm

  • Hope Estate, Matilda’s Corner, and New Kingston: 6.2 mm

  • Half-Way-Tree and Mona Reservoir: 6.1 mm Davis station storm data (Sept 20): 2.95 inches

  • Cross Roads and Three Miles: 6.0 mm.

Jamaica is a recognized participant in expanding knowledge in the climate sciences and disaster preparedness. By publishing rainfall data, we can empower communities, support innovation, and strengthen resilience.

Let’s build on the commitment to climate leadership. Data inspires action.
